Call for Papers e-mail teaser
- Place:
- Cape Town International Convention Centre, Cape Town, South Africa
- Date:
- 25–27 January 2006
You are cordially invited to participate in the 5th Southern African Conference on Human-Computer Interaction to be presented by CHI-SA (the SA HCI Special Interest Group) in collaboration with ACM SIGCHI and the Computer Society of South Africa.
CHI-SA 2006 welcomes contributions in the form of full papers or short papers. The conference particularly welcomes contributions that focus on User Interfaces in the developing world; addressing the use of computers in urban renewal, rural development, health, education, environment and the African arts and media.
As an interdisciplinary conference, CHI-SA accepts the following types of contributions:
- Case Studies of the development and use of interactive systems that provide new insights for HCI research.
- Interaction Technologies – a new technique, device, or other component of the user interface.
- Interactive Systems – descriptions of the architecture, interface, and evaluation of a new interactive system.
- Methodologies and Tools – new methods, processes, techniques, and tools for use in interactive system design, development, and deployment.
- Metrics by which the performance of interactive technologies can be measured and compared more meaningfully.
- Reflective Analyses – thought-provoking well substantiated analyses of HCI issues.
- Results from case studies – findings, guidelines, and so on, from studies of real world settings, or of technology use in such settings, with clear relevance to the design and deployment of interactive systems.
- Results from Laboratory Studies – findings, techniques, methods, and so on, from controlled studies of systems, techniques, and other phenomena relevant to HCI.
- Theories and Models – descriptions and evaluation of HCI theories, models, and other formal approaches.
Submission Guidelines
Papers are to be submitted electronically via email to Darelle.vanGreunen@nmmu.ac.za. Details are available on www.chi-sa.org.za.
All contributions must be written and presented in English in the CHI-SA 2006 submission format. There will also be an award for the best paper.
Short Papers
Authors are invited to submit extended abstracts of no more than 5 A4 pages in length. These should represent late breaking results, work in progress or novel results that are more appropriate to a shorter format.
Full Papers
Full papers should report research contributions, practice and experience, or novel applications. They must be no longer than ten A4 pages in length.
Tutorials
There is one day devoted to tutorials and exhibitions in the conference program. Tutorials must be in either a half-day or full-day format and the proposal should include details of the presenters, tutorial content, expected level of required delegate expertise and educational outcomes.
