21 - 22 April 2002
CHI 2002 Conference Center
Minneapolis, MN
The two days of the workshop were exhausting, but very
exciting and most of us were a bit overwhelmed by the positive response and
tremendous support we have had from the HCI community. During the
workshop and the three following days of the conference we have made
many friends and there is no doubt that we have succeeded in putting
South African HCI on the map! Three cheers and congratulations to
the very committted team (Paula Kotze, Gary Marsden, Diane Norton,
Edwin Blake, Theo Bothma, Lizette de Wet and Marion Walton) for what
they have achieved.
I have grown used to big and very active crowds at CHI
every year, so for me this one was rather slow and quiet, but the quality was
still very high. I admire the co-chairs Loren Terveen and Dennis
Wixon for what they have achieved under very difficult circumstances
and I can't thank them and the rest of SIGCHI enough for the
wonderful opportunity they have given us.
Minneapolis is a beautiful city (with great shops!) and
this, combined with Susan and David's incredible hospitality and the
unexpected snow helped to make this event an unforgettable
experience.
